From Struggling To Tie Shoes, To Transformation And Taking On New Challenges 🙌

Jonathan was always a bit of a rebel growing up, and that followed him into his adult years. He isn't the rebel type to cause chaos wherever he goes, but simply one who likes to make his own decisions. This trait of his made the idea of joining a gym and getting a coach a pretty far-fetched scenario.

It wasn’t a “one-off” big event that made Jonathan start to re-consider. The day-to-day things started getting more challenging and he was finding himself a little more out of breath than he used to be. 🤔

“There were a couple things that kind of made me realize that this was going to be important and it was time to get going. I’d accepted my fitness level was pretty low. When I started feeling it in my daily living I knew something had to change. It also made me aware that I’m not 35 anymore.”

Jonathan hadn’t always lived a sedentary lifestyle. His hobbies included cycling and cross-country skiing, but work always seemed to get in the way.

One of his biggest accomplishments was completing the Camino de Santiago in Spain! This consisted of roughly 30km of walking a day, and he completed it in 33 days. Jonathan was in great shape by the end of that journey, no doubt about it.

Upon returning home and getting back to day to day life, he reverted back to being more inactive.

Jonathan had no previous training experience and limited exposure to fitness. He felt no urgency to join on at a gym. An introvert at heart, Jonathan was content the way things were.

Do I need help? 🤷‍♂️

Jonathan was injury free and healthy. No chronic issues plagued him, no health problems. But why were things getting harder?

Jonathan started to notice that going up flights of stairs, getting out of chairs, and even tying shoes were becoming more strenuous. When Jonathan did do some sort of activity or physical work, his recovery was lacking.

Once these things started to get more difficult, Jonathan became more and more aware of how it was effecting him. ”It’s (was) constant, I felt it all the time. There were reminders during the day, it’s always there.” 👎

This lack of energy and stiffness was compounded by the fact that Jonathan can be desk-bound for long hours. His time spent working began to more noticeably impact his posture and lack of flexibility in the hips.

Jonathan’s wife Catherine, had been training with Evertrain already for a few years. She’d achieved big changes and was feeling better than ever. Jonathan had seen Catherine’s transformation and was very impressed. She was a big inspiration and motivation for Jonathan to get going in the right direction.

Jonathan made an incredible physical transformation in only his first year of training,

Getting the Ball Rolling

Jonathan wasn’t the most enthusiastic to say the least. He was quoted on his first day of training saying, ”Let’s get this started I guess.”

Yet his attitude and perception of what it meant to have a coach on his side changed very soon. Jonathan developed a great relationship with the coaches at Evertrain; it made walking through that door a little less like a chore.

With no previous experience in a gym setting, slow and steady won the race. 🐢🏆 Building a solid foundation of exercise knowledge and form, Jonathan was soon able to push himself. This led to great improvements all while staying injury free.

”I really liked the slow and deliberate training. It assured me I was not going to get hurt in the process, but also improving each time. It made it easy to trust the coaches and I could buy into the process.” Jonathan soon could begin to the feel the difference head to toe, feeling more energized and stronger than he ever had been before.

This gave him confidence in his abilities and his fitness experience. This confidence led to him trying new things, such as spin classes with his wife and close friends. ”I would have never joined a spin class before. I’m more of an introvert and that seemed to be outside of my comfort zone.”

Ready for the future

Here is what Jonathan said about what he thought of himself and his future.

Jonathan lost a total of 30lbs with Evertrain’s help.

"I knew that this was going to be an ongoing and continuing process in my life. Evertrain has helped me become much more self-aware about my physical fitness and what my body is actually feeling. I know now that I can fight the aging process. During this year I have become much more aware that I needed to do this. I was scared of getting old, and I credit Catherine to getting me started on this sooner rather than later.”

Jonathan has transformed himself from being a desk-bound, sedentary person. He’s now an active cyclist, and a more flexible version of himself. Jonathan now finds himself riding anywhere from 30-60km many times a week in the spring and summer time. 🚴‍♂️

“My summers used to consist of doing nothing, and I used to enjoy that. Now I can get out for a bike ride and enjoy the weather while getting out of that office chair.”

This new version of Jonathan has also helped him take on new projects at his cottage. A few years back these projects would have seemed daunting. Congratulations to Jonathan on your continued success. We can't wait to see where his fitness journey takes him.
