How to Survive the Holidays This Season - Ottawa Fitness and Nutrition for the Holidays

Why You Should Read This Post

We've prepared a Holiday Survival Guide for people over 50 who are tired of letting the holidays dig you into a hole. If you’ve found yourself going through the cycle year-after-year of letting loose over the holidays and feeling like you HAVE to "get back on track" come January 1st, this guide is what you need.

This guide will help you to control the "damage" done over the holidays and have you going into the New Year feeling great about yourself and in a MUCH better place to reach your 2018 goals.

Here is what this guide will do for you;

  • Significantly minimize holiday weight gain
  • Stop you from losing all of the gains you’ve made before the holidays
  • Get rid of the horrible guilt from letting yourself go
  • Get you to feel great about yourself and feeling more confident about reaching your goals going into January
  • Show you that you don’t need to be ‘perfect’ to stay on track
  • Give you a template to follow every holiday season

Our Holiday Survival Philosophy

It's not about being perfect or trying to rigidly stay on track and follow the 'rules'. Our holiday philosophy is quite simple, but very effective;

  1. Give yourself a mental and physical "break" (in other words, don't be too hard on yourself).

  2. Commit to turning the dial DOWN on fitness and nutrition not OFF.

You'll notice a few key words in the bullet points above and that is what we're going to talk about in today's post.

3 WAYS TO REDUCE THE "MIDDLE-AGE BULGE"

As health and fitness coaches who work primarily with people over 50, this topic comes up quite frequently in session.

Client A - "How do I get rid of this (as client points to mid-section)?"

The answer to this is never quick and easy. But there are things that are in your control that can make a difference right away.

There seems to be something that happens to us humans when we reach middle age.

It may seem as though the body takes a bit of a drop off and things change all of a sudden.

You may feel that your clothes are getting tighter.

The weight loss battle becomes more like an uphill battle and the things that worked in the past, just don't seem to work as well as they used to...

Reach Your Goals Now and Stop "Falling Off the Wagon". The First Step and More...Ottawa

Reach Your Goals Now and Stop "Falling Off the Wagon". The First Step and More...Ottawa

We've been meaning to write this post for a while now. This topic is a big one that many people can relate to. Our hope is to shed some light on some of the struggles that many of us deal with. We hope to provide you with a new perspective on how to approach taking care of your health and fitness, or at least help you to realize what will work for you and might not work.

Have you ever wondered why so many people tend to "fall off the wagon"? It seems like so many people we know go through this cycle of getting on the wagon and falling off the wagon. Why is this so common? Why do people fall off the wagon in the first place? Is falling off track just something that randomly happens? Are there connections that we can make? What can we do to stop this and stay on the wagon?

This blog post will try to give you a straight forward response to these questions and help you get on the path to not "falling off the wagon" anymore.

We coach our clients to eat colourful fruits and/or vegetables at every meal. Fruits and vegetables are a staple food in almost any diet because they are nutrient dense and low in calories.

They also contain many important micronutrients like vitamins, minerals and phytochemicals. These are not only essential for everyday functions (i.e. metabolism, immune system), but research has shown links with obesity, cardiovascular disease and other diseases in those with vitamin and mineral deficiencies. To add to that (although more research is needed), phytochemicals help to fight off cancer and other diseases.
